The doctor is arguably one of the most complex and difficult people in the world to try and understand. The first aspect of the doctor for anyone to try and point out as a characteristic is that he is crazy, insane or mad take your pick of the word that you want to use and move on. The doctor has often described himself as a mad man in a box and he has to admit that it is a pretty good description of himself, he is a very quirky person and has a lot of attributes that make up exactly what the doctor is. The doctor could be seen as a pompous and arrogant person in some aspects to people that think that they are smart because of the fact that the doctor is much smarter than them and is no problem in telling people so, an example of this was when he had first met Rose Tyler after the time war, the doctor had somewhat hardened and been colder than when he had been last on earth and he had called Rose a stupid ape when she had made a mistake. The doctor is also someone that has no problem in telling someone that they are wrong or stupid but he normally possesses the tact to be able to be gentle with the people that he cares about than calling them outright stupid.
The doctor is also a very lonely person even though he will not admit it, he had gone from being part of one of the greatest races across the galaxy, the timelords and was part of a thriving planet, yet after the time war he was the only one left which meant that he was alone. It is because of this that he asks for people to accompany him on travels whether it be Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble he has even allowed Rose’s boyfriend Mickey Jones and friend Captain Jack Harkness to travel with him because of the fact that he prefers to have a TARDIS full of people than to be alone. The doctor is also a being that is full of kindness and mercy, he will not risk the lives of innocent people if he can help it, he has often rejected his assistant’s undying loyalty to him to ensure that they are safe, examples of this are that when he could have put Rose in danger he always sent her back to her mother Jackie to ensure that she was safe rather than allowing her to die for him for example when they fought the Daleks at satellite five. Another example is that after all of the battles that he had fought with the master he refused to allow his fellow timelord die as he begged him to regenerate, this shows the mercy that the doctor has as he was willing to allow his greatest enemy live and travel with him rather than killing the master.
The doctor is also a loving and caring person, something that has been shown in the relationships that he has had with his assistants, he has cared for all of them in some way or another, the two that he arguably cared for the most are Sarah Jane Smith and Rose Tyler, however the reasons that he did so where very different. Sarah Jane he had travelled with for a long time and he did care for her but not nearly as much as she did for him. He only left Sarah Jane because of the fact that he was leaving Earth to fight in the time war and he refused to take her with him with the customs that they had on Gallifrey about humans at the time. Rose also affected him because of the fact that she was the first companion that he had after the time war, Rose was the person that had fixed the doctor and put back together the kind crazy alien that he had been before he had been the general that had ended the time war, Rose was able to break through the cold exterior of the doctor and find a way to make him into a kind caring alien again, it could be said that Rose was the closest thing that he had to a love because of the fact that he did indeed love Rose but he never acted on it because of the age difference. The doctor is also someone that will sacrifice his own happiness for the people that he cares about. The doctor could have selfishly dated Rose despite the age difference and knowing that she would happily die if she could spend the rest of her life with him. That is what the doctor had caused the curse of the timelords, he knew that he would be able to spend the rest of Rose’s life with her, or Sarah’s or Martha’s lives with them but then he could just regenerate and go back to looking like he was a man in his 30’s or younger yet they would continue to age, something that he didn’t view as fair to them
This is also something that the doctor could also be seen as being kind and selfless for, he is willing to put aside what would make him happy which is not to be alone to ensure that he can keep other people happy. This is why he returned Martha to her family when she had finished travelling with him, that had been what would make her happy. Also the doctor is protective of the planet earth. An example of that is the actions that he takes against the sycorax and the Krilitans, he told them that they had one chance to leave the earth, when they failed to do he then protected the earth and defeated his enemies. The doctor also has anger and rage, an example of this is when he comes across any daleks because of the fact that he sees it as unfair that he lost everything yet they still live on whilst he continues to lose anyone else that he cares for to them as he lost Rose at Canary Wharf because he was putting the daleks and cybermen through the void. Another example of this is with the family of blood the doctor showed them mercy and ran from them however when they pursued him and tried to fight him he unleashed his rage on them and gave them immortality in the most darkest and cruellest ways possible.

The tenth doctor’s existence came from yet another battle with the daleks, as the doctor had been prepared for death, Rose Tyler an assistant he had sent home in the TARDIS, returned to him having looked into the heart of the TARDIS and absorbed the vortex into her own body. That was something that no one’s DNA could uphold and the doctor kissed her absorbing the TARDIS into himself which meant that he had to regenerate. After the doctor’s regeneration he has continued to travel through time and space with a number of companions, such as Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith, Martha Jones and Donna Noble as well as Amy Pond and Rory Williams after another regeneration.

The doctor was having a strange day, the fact that he had not been working or travelling wasn’t a strange thing more to do with the fact that he was alone, he was currently Donna less, she had decided to go and see her mother because of the fact that she had wanted her to try and understand what exactly was going on between herself and the doctor and the fact that the doctor had been trying to help her and the fact that Donna was a stubborn person that wanted to better herself made it that it was something that the doctor had to admit that he was proud of because of the fact that he knew that he had been able to help Donna.
Then there was something that he hadn’t expected happened, the fact that there was a blip on the tardis that wasn’t odd but the fact that what the blip represented was the thing that bothered the doctor, the fact that all of his assistants had their own very different signatures once they had. The fact that the signal was the same of that of Rose was something that confused him. Arriving at the point of the signal he waited if it was Rose she would come to him.
